- Writing Effective Media Lines
Clients often are frustrated when the media lines they’ve laboured over fail to make it into a print story as a quote or a clip on radio or TV. Sometimes, an organization’s approval process renders the material unusable for reporters. Or, it’s the bureaucratic language that’s to blame.
This is where our decades of in-the-field experience as reporters can help. We know what makes a good quote or a good sound bite. We know why many of the lines that are produced fall short. We work with you to craft media lines that answer the question: Why should the audience care?
During our half-day sessions with up to 20 participants, we share best practices in the production of media lines. We then put the participants to work, crafting lines on subjects with which they are familiar and which reporters would likely use in their stories. Participants work in teams of four or five and each team presents the results of their efforts to the rest of the class.
